Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa (LIMUSA) calls on all metalworkers to attend COSATU May Day rallies that will be held nationwide on the 1st May 2019. COSATU as the biggest Federation in the county is set to have rallies in all Provinces around South Africa to celebrate this historical workers Day. The main rally will be in Durban.
We call on all workers in the country and the world never to take for granted the significance of this day in the struggle of workers. The rights that we have today were as a result of a protracted struggle of workers worldwide and many workers lost their lives in fighting for the rights we enjoy today.
COSATU has always been with workers in the trenches throughout the struggle for better working conditions in the workplace and for political freedom. COSATU has been in the forefront of the struggle for this day and confronted the Apartheid regime to have 1st May declared a holiday in South Africa.
In the 25 years of democracy COSATU has been on a continuous struggle that brought about Labour Relations acts, recognition of Trade Unions in all Sectors and other related laws which is much hated by the capitalist bosses. It is under the leadership of COSATU that we now witness a historical introduction of the National Minimum Wage act.
We call on workers to join us in the celebration for gains achieved by workers and mobilisation for further struggles to be pursued by workers, because “Power concedes nothing without demand” said Frederick Douglass.
For details of rallies in your province please contact COSATU Provincial Office.
