LIMUSA mourns the death of its President
A Liberator is no more
It is with great saddens and total devastation to confirm to metalworkers and the nation that our own President cde Sfiso Maphumulo of Liberated Metalworkers of South Africa (LIMUSA) been killed in fatal car accident in the N3 near Escort in KwaZulu Natal around 20:45 on the 18 April 2015. He was travelling from Durban to Johannesburg after attending a funeral of one of the LIMUSA member in KwaMakhutha to LIMUSA press conference which was scheduled for 19 April 2015, 11h00 at COSATU House.
The other three LIMUSA officials Cedric Gina, Mawonga Madolo and Mmusi Serobatse who were with him on the car had survived minor injuries.
This is a massive loss to LIMUSA members in particular and the working class in general. Cde Sfiso Maphumulo was a worker leader who has dedicated his adult life to serving workers in various structures of the trade union movement. This a fearless leader who never compromised in matters of principle. He has fought until the end for unity in COSATU. He indeed was a warrior who died in the war which we should take his spear and continue with the struggle.
He was many things to many people he was a brother, friend, husband, father, comrade, activist, leader and colleague
In his memory we shall continue with the struggle to build LIMUSA and COSATU drawing in aspiration from this dedication and passion for those organisations.
We would like to pass our sincere condolences to the Maphumulo family, friends, comrades and colleagues.
