Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa
Few days before LIMUSA celebrates a milestone in its existence, calamity hit the working class all over the world. The death of Commandant Fidel Castro has left the working class as paupers. His wise words will continue to inspire many working class formations like Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa.
LIMUSA celebrates its proud two years by remembering his words he uttered in 1959, “I began the revolution with 82 men. If I had to do it again, I would do it with 10 or 15 and absolute faith. It does not matter how small you are if you have faith and a plan of action.”
These revolutionary words inspire LIMUSA as she fights battles at the shop floor in 8 provinces. These revolutionary words inspire LIMUSA as she fights the employers at the CCMA and different bargaining councils. These words inspire LIMUSA as it contributes to the work of the federation, COSATU.
It is these words that have inspired LIMUSA to prove to its detractors who named it as a shelf union that it is alive. LIMUSA is vindicated that it’s the only worker controlled, democratic metalworkers union in South Africa.
LIMUSA salutes the 35 men that met in Benoni to plant the seed for the union registration certificate that was issued on 28 November 2016. LIMUSA is thankful to officials and ordinary members that continue to believe in the only plan for metalworkers in South Africa. LIMUSA is thankful to COSATU leaders and affiliates for believing in it. LIMUSA is thankful to the SACP for playing its vanguard role in nurturing it.
LIMUSA subscribes to what Commandant Castro said that “it does not matter how small you are if you have faith and a plan of action”. We dip our banner for Commandant Fidel Castro.
We have faith and a plan of action. Happy Birthday LIMUSA!
